Case Study: adidas Viral Marketing Campaign

adidas FreeStripes Home“Free stripes” is a viral campaign for adidas that launched in August 2009 in time for back to school and will run through the 2009 holiday season. Adidas customers get great deals, can share it with friends and win free shoes — hence Free Stripes.

The task that adidas came to Overland with was to get more people into their stores and spend money.

We created the campaign Free Stripes that grows virally and has been successful in getting people into the stores. Initially the traffic to the site was successfully driven through in-store promotions and word of mouth, but we are launching pay-per-click and mobile campaign to boost traffic for the Holiday season.

This is how the site works: You enter in your email address, enter zip code, hit submit. You can now print a coupon and you can invite your friends, with a personalized message, to join in on the savings. If five of your friends sign-up, print the coupon, and use it, you win a free pair of shoes. Sounds simple? It is.

adidas FreeStripes 2ndBuilding the engine that tracks customers and their friends so we could accurately reward those that hit the requirement for free shoes was a little more complicated. But thanks to our experienced engineering team it was built in record time and is running as planned. Customers are in the stores using the coupons and free shoes are awarded.
