Sunstone Circuits Case Study
URL: www.sunstone.com

Client:
Sunstone Circuits is a world leader in the production of prototype printed circuit boards (PCBs), and was one of the first companies to sell proto boards successfully on the Internet.

Need:
Sunstone was merging three independent business operations and needed a PCB configurator and e-commerce website that could create and track orders. Sunstone and the Overland Agency needed to create a SQL database for order management, and build a streamlined order process with complex business rules. The website needed to be written in .NET 2.0 and have a built-in content management system for site management. It was also crucial that design engineers could submit their PCB designs online for Sunstone’s evaluating and to be able to approve a part of the order entry process.

Solution:
Overland created a website in .NET 2.0 and VB.NET using AJAX to allow for immediate feedback of business rules during the order process. We worked with Sunstone to create a database schema that would allow for all three businesses to process orders. The site also provides matrix price quotes, allowing for maximum flexibility in pricing of the order.

Result:
By building the business rules and e-commerce functionality into the back-end, Sunstone has pioneered the sale of printed circuit boards online. Now, engineers who need quick-turn circuit boards for testing can easily submit their design anytime, and place and receive orders within 48 hours. And returning customers can log into their accounts to repeat orders and review account history. Online sales have grown dramatically, and the database tracks customer requests to build leads.
